Arsenal vs Bayern 2017: Wenger gives "honest" revelation of Sanchez's future

Whatever Arsène Wenger's goals were this weekend, it's clear that the result of their away match with Liverpool was something of a second order concern. Arsenal, for the seventh successive year, will exit at the Round of 16 stage.

The first Liverpool league double against Arsenal since 1999-2000 was littered with first-half mistakes from the midfield, in particular.

Roberto Firmino, scoreless in six games, opened the scoring with a sweeping counter attack which caught the entire Arsenal team napping in the 9th minute.

Lineker also made a joke about Arsenal not starting Alexis Sanchez against Liverpool. There will be no final Premier League title or a first Champions League title before retiring from the sport.

Which brings a different emphasis.

Ibrahimovic also saw a second-half penalty saved by Artur Boruc, preventing him from registering a 27th goal of the season.

The Chile global was a surprise omission from the Gunners' starting line-up in Saturday's 3-1 defeat by Liverpool at Anfield, a decision for which Wenger drew widespread criticism.

"I don't think they've got a particularly strong dressing room, I really don't", Lampard said. For many, the rationale for a recall is compelling.

"We want to achieve something together".

The Chilean, who is the league's joint top-scorer, has been petulant in recent weeks as Arsenal's season has crumbled and with Wenger confirming prior to the game that there was no injury scare, it was obvious the manager was making an example of his star player.

Wenger said his relationship with Sanchez was "honest and normal, like with every single player" and played down the possibility the Chile forward might leave the club during the close season. Perhaps the purist will argue a long-ball game is required against Bayern too.

With Uruguay worldwide Cavani finally hitting the heights expected of him since his arrival from Napoli back in the summer of 2013, it is more likely to be Di Maria, Lucas, Pastore or Draxler who find their playing time limited by a potential deal for Sanchez.

Alexis has 15 months of his contract so the decision of will he be here or not will depend completely on Arsenal Football Club and not on anybody else.

His argument that it is not just about the individual included an attempt to illustrate that Arsenal's fortunes do not depend on the Copa America victor.

A July 2014 signing from Barcelona, Sanchez is Arsenal's top scorer this season with 20 goals in all competitions and is seen as their most important player alongside German playmaker Ozil. You can understand that sometimes people lose a little bit of patience but we can't. The problem is that Arsenal is already down 5-1 to Bayern.

It seems to irritate him that Sanchez has been exonerated amid the inquests into Arsenal's struggles in defining fixtures.
