Finally, Lawrence County also reported an improvement from January 2016's 7.0 percent unemployment rate.

Nationally, unemployment dropped to 4.7 percent in figures released last week.

The seasonally-adjusted Vermont data for January shows the Vermont civilian labor force increased by 900 from the prior month's revised estimate.

The nation's joblessness rate decreased from 5.3 percent in January 2016 to 5.1 percent this year, and in saw a rate of 5.0 percent in January 2016 decrease to 4.7 percent for January 2017.

Simplified, the numbers indicate that while there are more people looking for jobs, there also are more who already have them than this time previous year.

Limestone County's unemployment rate was 6 percent in January, up from 5.2 percent in December and 5.5 percent in January 2016. Or put another way, people are entering the workforce faster than jobs are being created.

Alabama has the third highest unemployment rate in the nation.

The Indiana Department of Workforce Development released its county-level unemployment report for January 2017 Tuesday, showing improvements across almost every county in the state.

"Manufacturing has really stabilized, and we've had some growth", said John Slenker, the Labor Department's regional economist in Buffalo. "These are positive indicators for our economy".

NOTE: Employment (nonfarm payroll) - A count of all persons who worked full- or part-time or received pay from a nonagricultural employer for any part of the pay period which included the 12th of the month.

Statewide, 673,850 were employed and 19,700 unemployed in January for a total seasonally adjusted labor force of 693,550. "Average weekly earnings for our workers are up both over the month and the year".

Employment in other service, including repair-maintenance services and membership organizations, rose by 1,900. The February report is scheduled to be released March 24.
