Badgers prep for Villanova

Hayes untied it with a baseline drive, the same Hayes whose putback was the second-biggest basket of Wisconsin's Final Four upset of then-undefeated Kentucky in April 2015. The third-ranked Wildcats beat the Badgers 66-58.

SC head coach Frank Martin shouts to his team during the first half against Marquette in a first-round game of the NCAA men's college basketball tournament in Greenville, S.C., Friday, March 17, 2017.

Villanova redshirt freshman guard Donte DiVincenzo, who missed last season's title run with a broken right foot, has become invaluable for the Wildcats.

"He's a nightmare matchup", Villanova coach Jay Wright said.

"But, they have some really great athletes and shooters". It's a very similar type of game, and it's going to be a struggle.

Maillet seems to think that the fact Marquette is playing the Gamecocks in SC shouldn't have too big of an impact on the game and its results. Either we let Happ eat down low and smother Koenig, or let Koenig fire away while gang-guarding Happ.

"I do think some of it was Mount St. Mary's". "Just watching them, how physical they are, how they do a great job of playing a team-oriented defense, really low to the ball pretty well". Wisconsin has weapons, for sure, but more importantly, the Badgers have tournament chops as the only school in the country to make the Sweet 16 in each of the past three seasons and a national-best 12 tourney wins in the last four years. Darryl Reynolds has eight such games on his resume while sophomores Mikal Bridges and Jalen Brunson have each logged meaningful minutes in seven of those contests.

Hayes admits that seeing his college career draw to a close has motivated him to step up his game. If the Badgers lead down the stretch, don't expect the pressure of pulling off the upset will be too much. "Sometimes there's more made of that type of scenario, in terms of who's loose, who the pressure's on, who's favored". But I also think. seniors hear the clock ticking. "I drove baseline and if you guys are familiar with the Michael Jordan highlight - the fake spin-back - I did my fake spin-back, got to my left hand and fortunately it went in". Villanova would get things figured in the second half going on a 13-0 run early and were able to finish off the Mountaineers 76-56 and looking like the championship contending team they are. The Wildcats have been held to fewer than 70 points eight times, and have a 6-2 record in such games.

It was Hayes who had kept Wisconsin from crumbling. That's what he does.

Patty Wright said the plane was diverted to the Niagara Airport because of the weather and was four minutes from that facility when it was sent back to Philly. The Wildcats saw a terrible performance from Kris Jenkins, who went 2 of 13 from the field and had 7 points in 33 minutes, but still avoided the unlikely upset and soldiered on. It doesn't bother him at all. "I need to stay aggressive and hopefully the shots go in again".
