President Trump is planning to nominate Newt Gingrich's wife, Callista Gingrich, as the US ambassador to the Vatican, The New York Times reported Sunday. Vincent Salamone, a spokesman for the Office of Government Ethics, however, confirmed that the office "completed its work and cleared her report on April 7".
She told ABC News, during Mr. Gingrich's run for president in 2012, that her husband had sought an open marriage so that he could keep seeing Callista Bisek, then a congressional aide.
Have a terrific weekend.
"White House briefings and press conferences provide substantive and symbolic opportunities for journalists to pose questions to officials at the highest levels of the USA government", the statement from WHCA President Jeff Mason said.

Callista had a major role in the 2010conversion of her husband to Catholicism and she also played a critical role in breaking up Newt's second marriage from his ex-wife and former adviser Marianne Gingrich. In a 2011 interview Gingrich told the Christian Broadcasting Network that she has "always been a very spiritual person".
The decision to nominate Gingrich was first rumored back in January and others, like former Pennsylvania senator Rick Santorum, were also considered for the job.
"It might make me biased, but I think that her years of singing in the choir at the national shrine has given her a backstage pass to some of the most important events in the life in the church in the United States, including two papal visits", said Schlageter, who is a friend of the couple.
Newt was reached by phone on Sunday evening by the New York Times, but he did not comment on the confirmation or denied that his wife could be a possible choice for the position.
A formal announcement of Gingrich's nomination is likely to come this week, the White House official told The Post.
