Scalise remains in critical condition after shooting

Although he remains in critical condition, House Majority Whip Steve Scalise stands a good chance for an "excellent" recovery after being shot at a charity baseball practice outside Washington this week.

Sava earlier said the Louisiana congressman had been at "imminent risk of death" when he was first brought into the hospital on Wednesday, and he received many units of transfused blood.

Scalise, the House majority whip, was one of five people shot when a gunman opened fire Wednesday as the Republican team practiced in Alexandria, Virginia.

He suffered a rifle wound in his left hip that shattered bones, tore organs and caused severe bleeding.

Sava said that after being released from the hospital, Scalise "will require a period of healing and rehabilitation".

More on this as it develops. His House colleagues paid tribute to him at their annual charity baseball game, while law enforcement tracked the path the shooter traveled to his ballfield carnage.

Scalise, 51, is among four people shot by a gunman at a House Republican baseball practice Wednesday in the Washington suburbs.

Hodgkinson - an IL home inspector who had been living out of his van near the park - had a social media page filled with criticism of Republicans and the Trump administration.

In a final flourish of bipartisan camaraderie for the night, Democratic Rep. Mike Doyle of Pennsylvania, his team's manager, accepted the trophy, then gave it to his GOP counterpart, Rep. Joe Barton of Texas, to put in Scalise's office on behalf of the Democrats.

Most importantly, we are forever grateful for the heroism of Special Agents Crystal Griner and David Bailey, who saved the lives of everyone at the baseball field that morning, including Steve's.

"By playing tonight, you are showing the world that we will not be intimidated by threats, acts of violence, or assaults on our democracy", Trump said. But she says he sold items from his business and told her he was going to Washington. "And it was quite a day, and our police officers were incredible, weren't they?" Hodgkinson, 66, of Belleville, was fatally shot in a firefight with police. He sustained minor injuries to one of his wrists, elbows and lower back in the process. Authorities were investigating Hodgkinson's social media posts, a cellphone, computer and camera.

First, Democrats and Republicans gathered around second base to pray at the spot where Rep. Scalise was shot.
