Handcuffed man asks girlfriend to marry him

According to newson6.com, Oklahoma resident Brandon Thompson was being arrested on his birthday on July 4 for six felony warrants.

The 35-year-old got on one knee to ask for Leandria Keith's hand in marriage.

"I didn't want to part ways with her not showing exactly how I feel for her", Mr Thompson told CNN.

In 2013, Elk City, Okla., man Justin Harrel was placed under arrest for outstanding warrants when he asked the officer for "five minutes" and explained that he was just about to propose to his girlfriend Elaina Rios.

While officers were in the process of taking Thompson into custody, the suspect reportedly made his request.

The officers present on the scene were surprised with Mr Thompson's request but allowed him to go ahead with the proposal. It looks like a few police officials were in favor of the moment, specifically the Muskogee Police Department's spokesman, Lincoln Anderson.

Thompson's mother can be seen in the footage, insisting his son to "do it now" before asking him to get the ring. "Will you be my wife, please?"

Thompson said he has been "doing a lot to turn his life around".

WKRG further reports that his new fiancé pulled together their savings to bail Thompson out of jail and that they'll be figuring out their exact wedding plans once he clears up his legal troubles.

"I was shocked", Keith exclaimed. "And if by letting him take a moment before going to jail to do what he did, then we did our jobs".

"Police officers are human", he told CNN. "We care about the city we serve and the people in it", said Anderson.
