Jon Jones Reclaims UFC Belt With Third-Round TKO Of Daniel Cormier

After almost 15 months away from the Octagon, Jones on Saturday became the only man to finish Cormier - a head kick sending Cormier reeling, leading to a vicious ground-and-pound attack from Jones that referee John McCarthy finally halted at 3:01 of the third round. "To come back after such a huge layoff and especially against a determined and just nasty Daniel Cormier, who was coming after him in the fight and in his face the whole time, what Jon Jones accomplished tonight is incredible". Here is the results for a Twitter search of the video of the TKO.

Earlier in the week, Jones expressed enthusiasm regarding the idea of a bout between he and Lesnar, but suggested that the man who now inhabits the faux combat world of the WWE might not be willing to step out of that sphere to face him in a real fight. He beat Cormier by clear decision in their first bout in January 2015, but had fought just one time since. There's a lot of fresh blood in the light heavyweight division.

"If I'm going sacrifice being the smaller guy, then Brock would be a fight would make way more sense". Jones says if he weighs 225 to 230 pounds, the matchup is feasible, not to mention incredibly lucrative.

The Associated Press reached out to Lesnar after UFC 214 and his response was short, but sweet ... saying, "Be careful what you wish for, young man".

"I aspire to be a lot more like that man because he is an fantastic human being".

Now it will be interesting to see who the can UFC find, if anyone, that's capable of providing Cyborg with a challenge.

Jones finished Cormier in the main event Saturday night, reclaiming the light heavyweight title in the process.

Cormier staggered back and Jones ruthless in finding the finish hunted him down, astutely tripped his wounded opponent before applying hellacious ground and pound strikes.

The lingering doubt over Jones' return after 15 months of no action was of ring-rust, a factor which he showcased in his last fight which also came after a layoff. He pounced with more blows, finishing the fight at the 3:01 mark of Round 3. The elusive fight that all the fans were fretting over was here: Daniel "DC" Cormier vs Jon "Bones" Jones. That was enough for him to get the win, but during the fight the crowd booed, started the Mexican wave and even pulled out their cell phones and waved them in the air with the flashlight on.
