Eight people injured as van rams into diners, driver arrested

The fire department tweets did not say if the incident was intentional.

"Everyone was eating, enjoying life and out of nowhere this van ran them over", Courtney Crump said.

A vehicle plowed into a crowd, injuring at least six people in Los Angeles Sunday afternoon, authorities said. The impact of the crash sent the Ford van through a picket fence outside the restaurant, then through tables packed with diners on the patio.

That report also quotes another witness who said after the vehicle stopped, the driver briefly climbed out of the van, then jumped back in.

The remaining victims were described as in fair condition.

Some people were lying with broken limbs, while another bled profusely from his head under pieces of furniture and fencing.

About 7 p.m., officials towed away from the van, which had a flat tire and a damaged bumper, as a crowd of people watched.

Authorities arrested the driver after he allegedly attempted to flee the scene.
