In Both AP And Coaches Polls


In the most important national game of the weekend, the Alabama Crimson Tide defended their preseason No. 1 ranking by handily taking down the No. 3 Florida State Seminoles in Atlanta.

One subpar first half didn't deter Wisconsin from reeling off 59 consecutive points in a 59-10 blowout victory against Utah State in its season opener. The Badgers opened the season at No. 10 in the Coaches poll, which marked their first preseason top-10 appearance there since 2011. With the drops from both Florida State and USC, moving up two spots each are Clemson, Penn State, and Oklahoma to round out the top 5.

No. 11 MI was one of those aforementioned slow starters on Saturday, putting themselves behind against a depleted No. 17 Florida team.

MI jumped four spots up to No. 8 after pummeling Florida.

TCU and Notre Dame were not ranked last week but enter the poll at No. 23 and 24 respectively. Louisville 18. Virginia Tech 19. LSU is 12th in the coaches' poll, followed by Auburn at No. 13, Georgia at No. 15, Tennessee at No. 21 and Florida at No. 25.

Week 1 of the season was absolutely packed with high-scoring contests and highly competitive non-conference games between numerous AP Top 25 teams, an entertaining byproduct of college football's new merit-based playoff system.
