Formula One: Singapore extends contract to host night race until 2021

Singapore joined the schedule in 2008 as the sport's inaugural night race, and in 2012 penned an extension through to 2017.

"The Singapore Grand Prix, the Singapore Tourism Board and the Singapore Government have all done an excellent job of making this an event that involves the whole city".

"Singapore is new territory for me, but I don't mind that at all", he says in Williams' race preview.

Ticket sales fell past year to around 73,000 for each of the three days of the race weekend. The race is on Sunday, Sept. 17, at 8 a.m. ET, and NBCSN's pre-race live coverage will start at 7 a.m. ET. So far the only night race I have done was in Bahrain, but this will obviously be very different as it is on a street circuit.

Sebastian Vettel is the dominant driver in Singapore, having won it four times.

While Singapore has signed on for another four years, neighbouring Malaysia is about to hold its last grand prix after cancelling the race citing rising costs. He will be gunning for his first victory at the track this weekend. Mercedes now lead Ferrari by 62 points - and this weekend represents a great chance for Ferrari, who undoubtedly hold the upper hand in Singapore - to close the gap on the Silver Arrows. He is now sixth in the point standings and been retired in six different races this year. The Ice Man has two 3rd place finishes at Marina Bay, but Ferrari realistically need the Fin to complete a one-two with Vettel to make real inroads into Mercedes' lead in the constructors.
