Children As Young As One Burnt Alive By Day Care Security Guard

At a nursery school in Brazil, four children and a teacher were burned alive by the security guard after being sprayed by alcohol.

The Innocent People day care center in Brazil was set on fire by an employee.

The security guard has been named as 50-year-old Damiao Soares dos Santos.

There were 80 children in the day care when the incident happened, and the police have confirmed four children and a teacher have died, while nine others are in a critical condition.

The suspect also set himself on fire and was taken to hospital with burns covering nearly all his body after the attack at Innocent Children's People Municipal Education Centre in Janaúba, in Minas Gerias, south east Brazil.

He also set himself on fire, police said. He later died after succumbing to burn injuries in a local hospital.

Janauba's mayor has declared a seven-day mourning period.

Although the motive behind this atrocious attack still remains unclear, police superintendent, Renato Nunes, told Hoje em Dia newspaper that the guard had had mental health problems since 2014 and often sought the prosecutor's office to denounce his own mother. "I want to express my solidarity with families", wrote Brazilian president Michel Temer on Twitter.

Temer said he understood "this must be an extremely painful loss" for the parents, as he, too, is the father of a school-age child.
