At least three people reportedly were stabbed at Mall of America in Bloomington shortly before 7 p.m. on Sunday.

What started as simple robbery attempt quickly escalated into a violent, multi-victim incident after the would-be thief was caught stealing from two men inside a fitting room. Another man in his party responded to the victim's cries for help and was also stabbed, Potts said. A stabbing at one of the nation's largest malls has left two people injured and shoppers who were waiting to see Santa Claus shocked following what police call an "interrupted theft". He's being held on two counts of probable cause first-degree assault.

A knife-wielding suspect attempted to rob a customer in a dressing room at the Macy's store and when shopper confronted him, he stabbed the victim, the Star Tribune reported. Both individuals were transported to the Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis for treatment. "By the time we got to the main area - the men's department is to the right - more police started running in with their guns drawn".

The Mall of America said in a statement that their "thoughts are with the families involved". The victims were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
