Gigi Hadid will not be walking in the Victorias Secret Fashion Show

Yesterday, Gigi Hadid announced she wouldn't be participating in Victoria's Secret Fashion Show this year in China and it's rumored it's because she couldn't secure a visa. At a 2015 concert in Taipei, Perry wore a glittery sunflower-patterned dress and waved a Taiwanese flag during her performance.

"For every artist who wants to perform in China, officials comb through their social-media and press reports to see if they have done anything deemed to be offensive to the country", the source told Page Six. As previously reported, the post shared on Instagram showed the model holding up a chocolate dessert shaped like a sumo wrestler's face and imitating the face by squinting her eyes.

Hadid did not mention the controversy this week when she tweeted about missing the show.

'Love my VS family, and will be with all my girls in spirit'.

Bella Hadid is still scheduled to walk, and arrived in Shanghai this morning ahead of the show, which will be aired on November 28.

Gigi - born Jelena Noura Hadid - walked in both the 2015 and 2016 shows but she reportedly ran into trouble with her Chinese visa, just days before the event. Media outlets are alleging that Katy Perry is out as a performer because she was denied access into China after wearing a costume with sunflowers - an anti-China symbol - during a performance in Taiwan.

Perry made worldwide headlines in 2015 for her seemingly-political stage look. She announced the news on Twitter Thursday as other models, including sister Bella Hadid jetted to Shanghai.

It was not immediately clear whether Hadid had been denied a visa. "I have learned to be very careful of how my actions can come off or be portrayed, and I'm hopeful you'll accept my apology", the post said.

Victoria's Secret veteran Adriana Lima's visa has allegedly been held up due to an ongoing "diplomatic problem".

The collaboration marks the first time that Victoria's Secret has partnered with a luxury brand to create and exclusive range.

Neither Gigi nor Victorias Secret have given a reason for Gigi's absence from this year's show.
