Minister and the IAF Chief statements come after the Congress vice president asked the media to raise questions about the Rafale deal and on BJP chief Amit Shah's son Jay's income from Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

In his posers to the Defence Minister, Rahul asked, the final price of Rafale jets as well as whether the deal was cleared by the Cabinet Committee of Security (CCS).

She said it was only Prime Minister Narendra Modi who boldly made a decision to sign the deal to buy 36 Rafale fighter jets. We have negotiated for 36 French fighter aircraft Rafale (at a price) lower than that in the contract. She alleged that the indecision of the previous UPA governments to procure the combat jets "potentially compromised" national security interests.

Presenting the detailed timeline of the case she pinned the blame of the delay in the deal on the then UPA government.

Earlier on Friday, Sitharaman had said that the allegations relating to the procurement deal for 36 Rafale fighter jet by Congress were "shameful". Gandhi tweeted, "Why PM bypassed experienced HAL & gave the deal to AA rated businessman with no defence experience?"

Sitharaman said she has asked CII officials to hold discussions with the state government and chart out a plan.

Chennai: Those aspiring to make equipment for the defence forces must be futuristic, said Union Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.

The decision to strengthen the Air Force was taken by the Vajpayee government in 2000 but the Congress-led coalition, which came in 2004 could not seal the pact over the next decade.

"I am amazed over the patently baseless allegations being levelled by the Congress party on the whole Rafale deal", Prasad told reporters.
