Tencent publish PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds in China but with changes


The issue has been resolved to both Bluehole and Tencent's satisfaction, and now Tencent will be modifying PUBG to adhere to the rules China's government has set out for it to follow.

China's content regulator previously called out the game for its violence and said it "severely deviates from socialist core values".

Outside of the lack of updates in preparation for the game's full launch, the biggest problem facing PUBG users around the world is the increase in cheaters. "Tencent will localize and operate the game by catering to the preferences of Chinese gamers". However, before this could happen, it seems a few changes to the game will have to be made. "We will also offer a different, fun experience on PC", Steven Ma, Senior Vice President of Tencent, said in a statement provided to Glixel.

"PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds" is heading to a huge potential market in China, after Chinese Tech Giant Tencent won the rights to publish the game in the region.

According to Reuter's translation of the Tencent statement, the eventual Chinese release of PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds will see its content adjusted to align with "socialist core values, Chinese traditional culture, and moral rules".

The PUBG game where players fight for survival on a deserted island is now the world's top-selling videogame, having shipped more than 20 million copies since its launch in March.

Among other things, the developer studios for their survival games have added red banners that read, "safeguard national security, safeguard world peace".
