UCLA To Appoint Chip Kelly As Head Coach

Is this the right move for the Bruins? And what are your expectations for UCLA with Kelly at the helm? Offensive coordinator Jedd Fisch was named interim head coach for the remainder of the season.

The 54-year-old coach had a celebrated run in Eugene, Oregon, posting a 46-7 record and leading the Ducks to an appearance in the 2011 BCS title game, which Oregon lost to Auburn. Kelly exited the National Football League with a career 28-35 record. Kelly also was handed an 18-month show-cause penalty, which expired in late 2014. The Eagles made the playoffs in Kelly's first season there in 2013, but he was sacked after going 6-9 in 2015 with a talented team that was widely viewed to have underachieved. Just weeks later, the San Francisco 49ers hired him, but he lasted just a year there, going 2-14 before being relieved of his duties with three years remaining on his contract.

With Kelly formally, officially out of the picture, UF is expected to pursue UCF coach Scott Frost. Under Mora, the Bruins dropped six straight games against ranked programs.

"I am pleased to welcome Chip Kelly to UCLA, confident that he will work tirelessly to focus on the whole student, both as an athlete and as a scholar", said UCLA Chancellor Gene Block.

The hire is huge for the program which hasn't won a conference title in about two decades.
