'Lady Bird' breaks Rotten Tomatoes record

(Even Armond White, the critic who ruined Toy Story 3's ideal score with a bad review in 2010, liked Lady Bird.) Gerwig responded to the good news, tellingRT, "that there has been such a warm reception is a dream come true". Previously, Toy Story 2 held the record with 163 reviews. With so many reviews, even a critically beloved movie is bound to come up with at least one or two dissenters (or someone like Armond White, who believes it's his job to play the contrarian).

Lady Bird has just done something that's never been done before.

Move over, Toy Story 2.

Only two other films in the websites history have managed to achieve a 100 per cent positive score with over 100 reviews - 2008 documentary Man on Wire, and Isabelle Hupperts drama Things to Come a year ago.

Move over, Woody and Buzz: There's a new sheriff in town at Rotten Tomatoes. The movie now boasts a rare 100% score with 173 reviews and counting on an average rating of 8.9/10.

“This is completely awesome and so incredibly appreciated by the entire team that made Lady Bird, ” she tells Rotten Tomatoes.

"This is completely incredible and so incredibly appreciated by the entire team that made 'Lady Bird.' We put our heart and souls into this movie, and the last step of this deeply collaborative art form of filmmaking is giving the film to the audience and the film critics". That there has been such a warm reception is a dream come true.

"Lady Bird", which Gerwig wrote and directed, has also snagged three Gotham Award nominations and four Independent Spirit Award nominations.

Gerwig added that the cast and crew are "using the tomato emoji more than [they] ever thought possible".

You can see Lady Bird in theaters now, where it expanded into wide release this past weekend.
