But, Mega Man is an important icon to fighting games and video games in general.

Capcom on Monday during its 30 anniversary celebration for Mega Man revealed a brand new game in the franchise.

As you can see, Mega Man 11 is ditching the retro pixel art of the series' last two entries, in favor of a polygonal 2.5D approach.

More details on Mega Man 11 are set to be revealed in summer 2018 - likely at or near E3 - but the trailer above provides an early glimpse at the look, stages, weapons, and enemies the game will be bringing.

Mega Man 11 blasts its way onto PC, Xbox One, PS4, and Nintendo Switch in late 2018.

Mega Man Legacy Collection and Mega Man Legacy Collection 2 will be compatible with amiibo, Capcom said during the stream.

Looking at the trailer, it's clear that Mega Man 11 features gorgeous visuals and tight platforming.

The announcement was made during the franchise's 30th anniversary livestream.

Mega Man Legacy Collection contains the first Mega Man game through Mega Man 6.

What platforms will Mega Man 11 be available for?

If you simply can't wait for Mega Man 11, you'll have some other Mega Man games to play between now and then. The PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC versions of the collection will receive an update to add this feature. Either way, though, it's the most love the series has gotten since X8 came out for the PS2 more than a decade ago.

Its been more than seven years since Mega Man 10 was released, with Mighty Number 9 not satisfying many in the meantime, and fans have been waiting patiently for the next installment.
