Amazon Video (Finally!) Comes to Apple TV

Apple says: "Live sports in the Apple TV app is available as a free software update for Apple TV 4K and Apple TV (4th generation), iPhone and iPad customers in the USA". But today, finally, after waiting for so long, have just installed Amazon Video on my Apple TV, so unless I'm dreaming, this is now a reality.

Amazon Prime Video is one of the most eagerly anticipated apps to come to Apple TV, so we're excited to bring all of that great content to customers.

Starting Wednesday, Amazon Prime users will be able to more easily watch movies and TV shows directly on Apple TV, rather than using a workaround to mirror content from an iPhone or another Apple device via AirPlay.

Amazon does not currently offer Apple TV hardware, but some suspect that may change now that Apple is supporting Amazon's video app. Join our Cord Cutting Tech Support Facebook Group for help.

"Amazon is coming to the TV app and all Apple TVs later this year with Amazon Prime Video", Cook said at Apple's WWDC keynote. Summer came, but the app was nowhere to be found. Apple then issued an update saying the app's release was moved to September, but that didn't happen as well.

Features of the new app include the ability to add videos to Your Watchlist (viewable on compatible devices), and next episode Auto Play while streaming series. Spanish blog Applesfera spotted the Prime Video app in the iOS App Store with promotional text written by App Store editors. Customers in the U.S., U.K., Germany and Austria will also be able to watch videos from subscription services (like HBO, Showtime or Eurosport in Europe) paid for on Amazon.

On Tuesday, Google said it would block its YouTube video app on Amazon devices because the online retailer is not selling Google hardware, such as Chromecast streaming dongles, Google Home smart speakers and Nest smart home devices. "And they're going to return it".
