Nintendo has announced its Switch sales figures through December 2017, and surprise-the console did very well.

The more surprising part of the press release is the sales unit for the Nintendo 3DS, which were at a rather impressive 750k for the year, making it the best month for 3DS since December 2014.

Nintendo Switch is the latest console/handheld hybrid from Nintendo that has proven to be a smash hit for them.

Over the holiday season, shoppers purchased 1.5M Nintendo Switch systems during the five-week reporting period of December. Total figures for Switch now sit at more than 4.8 million; not too shabby considering it only launched 10 months ago. Collectively, the different versions of Nintendo 3DS hardware sold more than 750,000 units in the U.S.in December, which is a 27% increase over the same period a year ago.

Nintendo had six games in the top 16 of the sales chart for December, including Super Mario Odyssey at number three and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe coming in the fourth slot.

Nintendo's positively received titles that have come out in the past 9 months no doubt had a big effect on the large amount of units sold. The Switch has also gone on to become the fastest-selling console in US history. Pokemon Ultra Sun and Pokemon Ultra Moon for 3DS also finished at numbers 13 and 14, respectively.
