Further, the offer was linked to a separate category, which was distinct from the audiobooks on offer in the Google Play Music segment.

Google Play has always been viewed as a go-to place for apps, games, movies, TV shows, music, books, comics and more. If the banner is any indication, they should appear sometime in the near future, perhaps as early as this week.

9to5Google reports that a banner seems to have shown up for users using the mobile Google Play app and the desktop version.

You can already get a limited number of audiobooks through the Google Play Music app, but it's not really a fully fledged service.

If you like having your literature read out to you, keep your eyes on the Google Play Store, as it looks like a dedicated audiobook section is on the way - and if you're quick you might be able to get a hefty discount on your first purchase when the changes go live.

The link to it now does not work, though that could change very soon. Audiobooks on the Google Play Store have been hinted in the past as well. All the reports suggest that, the giant will soon come up with this dedicated Audiobooks section on the Play Store sometime this quarter.

In addition, it appears that the roll-out of the Google audiobooks is not global as the banner is only visible to Android users in the U.S., United Kingdom and Australia, according to AndroidHeadlines. Similarly, The Android Soul just recently had also reported that in their APK teardown of the latest update to the Google Play Books app, and they had found a code for several new features, including audiobooks.

If it happens, Google's move into the audiobook market could be significant, because it would challenge Amazon's domination of the market. But it seems that the company is laying the groundwork for an audiobook store.
