Winter weather advisory for ice, snow in region


The weather pattern includes a strong front, that's now stalled to our NW. There isn't a lot of moisture, but mist and sub-freezing temperatures is NOT a good combo. The persistent SW flow aloft over that stationary front will provide the setup for heavy rain.

Thursday - A chance of freezing rain before 2pm, then a chance of rain.

"What we're seeing out to the west out in Kansas are conditions that are starting to deteriorate on the roads and that's all moving this way with rain and even some embedded thunderstorms", Bowman said.

Thursday night: A 30 percent chance of rain before midnight.

Ice-covered roads stretch from Portage all the way north to Oneida County and over to Green Bay, while snow-covered roads are in northern and northwest Wisconsin. This could cause some slick spots on bridges and overpasses for the commute Wednesday morning. "The combination of the ice accumulation that has already occurred and the winds picking up to around 10-20 miles per hour may produce ice accumulation up to 0.3" so an ice storm warning has been issued for Coffey, Douglas, Franklin, and Osage counties so traveling east down I-70 today is not a good idea. "Regardless if we see that freezing rain Wednesday morning, heavy rain looks likely leading to river flooding with widespread rain amounts reaching 4" to possibly as much as 6" of rain.
