Republican lawmaker fires aide for falsely calling Parkland students 'actors'

When reporter Alex Leary asked for more information to back up his claims, Kelly linked to a debunked conspiracy theory video claiming the students were paid to tout an anti-gun agenda and bash President Donald Trump. In fact, President Donald Trump's youngest son liked two tweets that endorse a conspiracy theory that one student survivor is an Federal Bureau of Investigation plant. It's upsetting that rather than recognizing these students as fearless advocates following a traumatic event, these theories discredit them as the plants of a bureaucratic entity or the media.

"EXPOSED: School Shooting Survivor Turned Activist David Hoggs Father in FBI, Appears To Have Been Coached On Anti-Trump Lines", read a headline on Gateway Pundit. We've seen similar moves by them many times over.

"Everything they're doing is right out of the Democrat Party's various playbooks".

In their interview, Gonzalez and Hogg called for disbanding the NRA, and for stricter gun control laws. I have spoken to him and placed him on leave until we determine an appropriate course of action.

The claim was made in an email to a reporter. "I do not share his opinion and he did so without my knowledge".

"Thank you", Hogg wrote in response.

An hour later, Harrison sent out this tweet: "Tonight Mr. Kelly was terminated from his position as my District Secretary". Not long after, he released a statement: "I was just made aware that my aide made an insensitive and inappropriate allegation about Parkland students today". I am again sorry for any pain this has caused the grieving families of this tragedy.

Kelly also took to Twitter Wednesday, and said after his firing that he had made a mistake.

"I was shocked and angry to read the appalling email about the fearless students who traveled to Tallahassee today", he said in a statement Tuesday evening.

"I'm not a crisis actor", David, 17, told CNN on Tuesday. "I'm someone who had to witness this and live through this and I continue to be having to do that".

"I'm not acting on anybody's behalf", he said.

An article published in the Coral Springs Talk on February 8, six days before the shootings, names Hogg as a senior at Marjory Stoneman Douglas and features a documentary he made about astronomy students' efforts to launch a weather balloon and an attached craft into space. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.), who has come under scrutiny this week for failing to support gun control efforts, said the people pushing such conspiracy theories were a "disgusting group of idiots with no sense of decency".
