United States to prevent 2018 election interference

President Donald Trump said Tuesday his administration is preparing "strong" measures to prevent Russian Federation from meddling in November midterm elections.

Trump's proposal has raised alarm about a potential trade war that could negatively impact American industry and jobs.

Trump didn't expand on how the US would counteract Russian efforts to sow discord when asked about Moscow's electoral interference during a joint press conference with Swedish Prime Minister Stefan Löfven.

The president's remarks came the same day as the first primaries of 2018 occur in Texas.

Trump then launched into a rant against the European Union's trade policies - with the Swedish prime minister beside him. You dont want your system of votes to be compromised in any way. "We're going to straighten it out and we'll do it in a very loving way", Trump said.

The president offered no specifics other than to suggest that paper ballots be used as a backup to voting machines.

So China doesn't send us two percent; they send us a much, much higher level than that, but it's called transshipping.

Asked by a Swedish journalist whether he was concerned Russian Federation could have an effect on the midterms, Trump insisted during his news conference that the United States would prevent any election interference efforts. Well counteract it very strongly.

"That is also our clear stance, and that is why our intelligence agencies are now also increasing their capacity to detect and counter, whether its hacker attacks or financing, or producing, or spreading propaganda, whatever it is; we are increasing our capacity to handle that", Trump said. "We'll find out", Trump said. "We haven't been giving credit for this, but we've actually been working very hard on the '18 election and the '20 election coming up", he said.

Trump also expressed optimism about resolving tensions with North Korea, saying he believes the country is "sincere".

Earlier Tuesday, Trump tweeted about news reports of chaos in the White House.

Trump mentioned that his daughter and White House adviser, Ivanka Trump, recently watched the US defeat Sweden's men's curling team at the Olympic Games last month in South Korea.

"Theyre going to a paper backup and I think thats a great idea". I like seeing it.

"But the White House has a tremendous energy, and we have tremendous talent". "They all want a piece of that Oval Office".

Questioned about why no new sanctions have been issued, National Intelligence Director Dan Coats said Tuesday that they were forthcoming.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky said there was concern Trump's plan could lead to such disruptive turmoil.

But he didn't engage regarding whom he wants to see go. "But were studying it very closely", Trump said. "I am convinced that increased tariffs will hurt us all in the long run", Lofven said. Yet, he again suggested others might have been involved in attempts to influence the 2016 USA presidential election.

"One of the reasons I was elected is I am protecting our workers. Now, one of them made that statement before I got elected", he said.

We need steel and we need aluminium. We can not lose our steel industry. It's a fraction of what it once was. Trump also complained about a $500 billion trade deficit with China; it was a $375 billion deficit in 2017. Warmbier later died after returning to the US.

The president sounded optimistic regarding developments in North Korea, who conveyed the notion that they may be willing to see the de-nucleation of the peninsula. "The European Union has been particularly tough on the United States".

"When we're behind on every single country, trade wars aren't so bad, you know what I mean?"
