Galaxy Note 9 In-Display Fingerprint Sensor Still Facing 'Technological Difficulties'

However, the analyst says in his latest note to investors that the Korean company is likely to drop the technology from the Note 9.

Back in August 2017, KGI Securities released a similar report about the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9 Plus. The company has been taking steps to ensure it's in-display fingerprint technology is improved but it may not be released just in time for the Note 9 to have it. Rumors have been circulating for nearly a year that the Galaxy Note 9 would feature an in-display fingerprint sensor.

We've been saying the Galaxy Note 9 may be ready with the under-display optical fingerprint sensor but unfortunately, and for the second time, the technology may not be ready. Samsung's mobile business chief DJ Koh recently told media that the company would no longer rush things to be the first to market.

Samsung doesn't seem to be in a rush this time to implement something totally new. The Note has been said to apply an under-display sensor which is something Samsung wasn't' able to do on the S9. In a surprising move, a new Chinese manufacturer Vivo has managed to launch a flagship device which supports fingerprint sensor embedded on the screen. The Vivo X20 Plus UD sports a 6.4-inch OLED display with slim bezels at the top and bottom.

Knowing that I have the option of adding extra storage to the Galaxy S9 by purchasing a microSD card, many of which cost less than $100 depending on how much storage you want to add, it eased my worries that I would have to worry about storage on my phone. The sensor apparently faces difficulties in functioning properly in different environments and with screen protectors. The one feature that could set it apart, however, might still not be ready, according to the famed Ming-chi Kuo.

There are three Galaxy S9 features in particular that gave me more flexibility in terms of how I use my phone: the fingerprint sensor, the microSD card slot, and the headphone jack. Sales for the iPhone X have reportedly been so slow that Apple reportedly slashed production in half for the first part of 2018.
