Eric Bailly apologises to Manchester United fans after Champions League exit

Substitute Wissam Ben Yedder picked up the ball and from around 18 yards out fired into the bottom corner of David De Gea's net.

After a goalless draw in Seville, Mourinho led his charges into the second leg with a precarious result considering his side didn't bag an important away goal.

Nemanja Matic pulled no punches about United's tame performance. There was Ashley Young on his honkers, looking spent.

However, besides the performance itself, fans are also enraged by the way he appeared to shrug of the defeat in the post-match conference.

"I sat in this chair twice in the Champions League after knocking out Manchester United (in the last 16) at home, at Old Trafford", Mourinho said.

However, De Gea has largely remained happy with life in Manchester in recent years, having signed a new five-year deal only a few days after his Madrid move collapsed in 2015, and United are expected to do everything in their power to keep him at the club. We have no time for dramas.

Mourinho's second season at United can end, at best, with an FA Cup win and it is hard to imagine them storming past City next year.

In the final 10 minutes, we saw the United that might have been; but the fact is that Mourinho has never felt comfortable giving free rein to talent and an, at times necessary, element of disorder. These are not the sentiments Mourinho needs to deliver when he's just overseen one of the most aimless and disjointed attempts by a team to progress to the Champions League quarter-finals in the competition's history.

But a fantastic team like Tottenham has exactly the same target as us to do that. We should have done much better.

"We can understand he's from Madrid and would be playing for a team that would be challenging for the Champions League season after season".

"For the manager, for every coach, it is not simple to sleep a lot, especially before these types of games", said Conte. It was only a matter of time before they scored.

"I don't remember a risky situation for them, it was a good controlled performance by them without any danger".

Expanding on the missed chances, Lukaku continued: "We should have scored earlier, maybe in the first half with the chances that we created, but the last pass was not good enough. The first goal would always change the direction of the game". Everybody spends money right, it's not just us, right?

And it wasn't about to change for the sake of bringing in the Portuguese. I don't have regrets.
