The militants had taken refuge in the houses in the area after their attempt to attack a BJP leader Dr Anwar Khan was foiled by his security guards yesterday afternoon. While Khan escaped the attack unhurt, his PSO, constable Bilal Ahmad, was injured in the incident, the official added.
Two militants were killed and three policemen including an SHO injured on Thursday in a gunfight that broke out on the outskirts of the city after a BJP leader was attacked, said police. The exchange of fire started as the militants tried to snatch the weapon from the injured policeman.

Security forces also retaliated the firing, ensuing an encounter. The CRPF jawan was admitted to 92 Army base hospital.
The slain militants were identified as shabir Ahmed, a resident of Awantipora and Rasuk Nabi bhat, a resident of Tral. The spokesman said as per police records, Bhat and Dar had joined militancy past year in the month of March and August respectively.
"The dead bodies have been handed over to their legal heirs for last rites. Further investigation is on", the statement said.
