Now, he plans to run a league that will rival the revamped form of the league. It promises a new kind of broadcast, wrapping up games in two-and-a-half hours and without TV timeouts. Host cities of the league's eight teams are expected to be announced within the next three months, and teams will be composed of regional players.
The key to Ebersol's business model is subdued expectations, as his deep-pocketed investors have been told that it's a 7- to 10-year business model.
For the longest time, we only had one pro football league and that dominated the American sports landscape. Teams will be required to attempt 2-point conversions from the 2-yard line rather than kick extra points. There will be no kickoffs and innovations around onsides kicks in which teams can go for a fourth-and-1o from the 35-yard line to retain possession. The play clock will be 30 seconds, not 45, as it is in the NFL.
According to ESPN, former Colts general manager Bill Polian will help "steer the league", while former Steelers safety Troy Polamalu will oversee the players, former NFL receiver and XFL general manager J.K. McKay will oversee the teams, and ex-NFLers Justin Tuck and Hines Ward will serve as advisers, along with Dick Ebersol. The Alliance of American Football was announced earlier today in a press release. "Only 1,700 have National Football League jobs".
While McMahon's league is backed by McMahon's money, Charlie Ebersol's league is backed by others, including former Minnesota Vikings defensive end Jared Allen. "We're looking for those Kurt Warners working in grocery stores, and we think we will find them". "We believe fans and players are what's most important, so our approach is simple - we've created an Alliance where fans and players share in the success of their teams".More news: Ireland rugby team given heroes welcome at Dublin Airport

"This (spring football) is a massive gap in the market", said Ebersol, whose father, Dick, was an NBC executive and partner in the XFL. Other regular season games will be available on the league's forthcoming app, while one game per week will air on CBS Sports.
"Fifty-nine million people play fantasy and 20 million people play only fantasy football", Ebersol. Now there's another league that seems to be more intent on competing with the XFL than the NFL. The XFL has a mindset that "because the NFL is doing this, we're doing that", the Alliance of American Football made changes because they felt it made the sport of football better and not necessarily because of what it is the NFL did.
"The Alliance of American Football represents a fundamental shift in the way we approach professional sports", Ebersol said in a statement. But at the end of the day, we are complementary to the NFL.
I do have one suggestion to those at the Alliance of American Football and that is to do something about shortening that name.
