Comey's firing set in motion the appointment of special counsel Robert Mueller, who is investigating possible collusion by Trump's presidential campaign with Russians. Flynn has since pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI about his contacts with Russia's ambassador and is now cooperating with the Mueller investigation.
The book, obtained by news outlets and reviewed last week, has caused great agita for Trump.
The president also seemed to be responding to the FBI raid on and court-authorized search of the office of his personal attorney, Michael Cohen, who authorities said has been under criminal investigation for months.
The president's tweets - which also targeted Loretta Lynch, the attorney general under Trump's predecessor Barack Obama - came hours before a lengthy interview with the ex-FBI head was to air on ABC Sunday night.
"Comey throws AG Lynch under the bus!"
The tweets were filled with unproven assertions.
"I said to him, 'Sir that's up to you but you want to be careful about that because it might create a narrative that we're investigating you personally and, second, it's very hard to prove something didn't happen", Comey said.More news: There Might Be A New Self-Destructing Message Feature In The Gmail Revamp

U.S. President Donald Trump's denunciation of former FBI Director James Comey as a "slime ball" on Friday triggered a 60,000 percent jump in look-ups for the word on Merriam-Webster's website, the dictionary publisher said.
Comey said he cautioned Trump against ordering an investigation into a salacious intelligence dossier alleging an 2013 encounter with prostitutes in Moscow. Both Lynch and Bill Clinton have denied they discussed the issue on the tarmac.
Trump denied the allegations and said he might want the FBI to investigate allegations in the dossier to prove they were not true, Comey told ABC. Eastern Time in his first television interview since being fired by President Donald Trump previous year. Trump seized on that, saying Comey "was making decisions based on the fact that he thought she was going to win, and he wanted a job". The president appears to be referring to passages in A Higher Loyalty in which Comey wrote that he had a "tortured half-in, half-out approach" to the investigation into Clinton's emails. "I never asked Comey for Personal Loyalty", Trump wrote.
"I inquired Comey for Loyalty", tweeted. I hardly even knew this guy. The following of the many lies. "His "memos" are self serving and FAKE!"
"I took it as a very disturbing thing, very concerning", he declared under oath. "All lawyers are deflated and concerned!"
A little after 9 a.m. Sunday (early Monday NZ time), Trump returned his focus to Comey.
