'Star Wars's Kelly Marie Tran deletes Instagram posts, fan harassment suspected

Kelly Marie Tran, who played Rose Tico in Star Wars: The Last Jedi has reportedly removed all of her posts on her Instagram account due to months of harassment from angry fans. And that's OKAY. Let us approach each other from a place of honesty in this confusion, let us embrace our differences with love.

The UCLA grad followed the lead of her castmate Daisy Ridley, who deleted the popular platform in July of previous year because she wasn't 'equipped'. Her character was a mechanic who befriends and saves Finn (John Boyega), sacrificing herself in the process. "I was terrified of being picked apart, of being scrutinized, of being seen", Tran wrote in one now-deleted post. It was a dream journey, by the actor's own account, until the response from the ugliest corners of the galaxy far far away arrived, denouncing her online and even editing her Wookieepedia page with racist attacks. "We're the VAST majority, we're having fun and doing just fine".

Social media users began calling out her ethnicity and taking aim at her appearance - with numerous comments that were critical of her weight.

All of the new content will be added to Star Wars: Battlefront II on June 12, 2018, and will be available on all platforms.

According to the Wrap, the actress received "months of racist trolling", including an incident where her name on an online Star Wars encyclopedia was changed to "Ching Chong Wing Tong".

Lead actress Daisy Ridley has also left Instagram because of sexist comments about her role in The Last Jedi - and earlier this year one fan released an edited version of the film without any female characters. People weren't nice about how I looked.

Global News has reached out to Tran's reps for comment and/or confirmation.

It comes after Tran's Last Jedi co-star Daisy Ridley, who plays Rey, past year revealed she had quit Instagram. "I'm super sensitive-not too sensitive-but I really feel things", the actress told Glamour in 2017. The page's tagline, which had been "Am I doing this right?" in November, now reads, "Afraid, but doing it anyway". Maybe I'm supposed to say something like 'I respect all opinions, ' but I don't. Simple as that. That is not what I signed up for.
