UFC 225: Yoel Romero misses weight for title fight with Robert Whittaker

"I missed weight but the situation is very complicated", Romero said.

Because of failing to make weight, Romero will not be eligible to win the title.

Romero also failed to meet the 185-pound requirement in February for an interim middleweight title fight against Luke Rockhold at UFC 221.

Robert Whittaker won't have his undisputed UFC middleweight title on the line on Saturday when he takes on Yoel Romero.

Romero needed to get down to 185 pounds or less to ensure he could compete for the middleweight strap on Saturday at United Center.

Regardless of the minor amount of weight, or what really happened backstage between the Illinois Athletic Commission, Romero, his team and the UFC, this is inexcusable. Romero knocked out Rockhold in the second round.

Now recovered from a staph infection and a nasty case of chickenpox, Whittaker is ready to get back in the Octagon with the "Soldier of God".

The 41-year-old Cuban's recent struggles come on the heels of an eight-fight win streak that began with an impressive opening-round KO of Clifford Starks in his promotional debut at UFC on Fox 7 in January 2013. He fought on the national wrestling scene for years before transitioning into MMA.

"The last fight with him, 25 minutes I was trying to finish him", Whittaker said.

Allow Romero a third chance at UFC gold?

"I can't disrespect him in that regard even for a second and look past him otherwise I'll lose in that instant".
