Caribbean American legislator arrested for protesting Trump Supreme Court nominee

Vice President Mike Pence told Fox News exclusively on Tuesday that he has been "very encouraged" by the initial reaction on Capitol Hill to Judge Brett Kavanaugh's nomination to the Supreme Court.

KING: Well what do you make of the argument that this is a state's rights issue, that this should be decided by individual states? Cuomo naturally wants abortion removed entirely from the Penal Code if possible, which would presumably make the dream of abortion on demand up to the moment of crowning a reality.

Weddington: Well, it's 50 years since I started work on it, because I started in 1969.

And Murkowski said she is not certain that Kavanaugh is "committed to overturning Roe v. Wade".

Cuomo says Monday that the GOP-led Senate should immediately reconvene to pass the measure in light of a vacancy on the U.S. Supreme Court.

We need to mobilize in the states.

The debate over abortion rights is occupying center stage in NY politics, with Democratic gubernatorial candidate Cynthia Nixon having waved a wire coat hanger at a rally and Gov. Andrew Cuomo's campaign using two of his two daughters in an appeal for funds from choice advocates.

KUT's Nathan Bernier spoke with Weddington about Kavanaugh's nomination and the future of Roe. Every state election and every legislative session will become a battlefield. "We also know that such restrictions would never be placed on men, which exposes as false the notion that women have all the rights and protections of male citizens of the United States".

To Godsey's point, this week a New York Times story profiled the hard experiences of women who procured abortions from around the world, even in countries where the practice is largely prohibited. The law should protect the citizen, whose rights are provided by the Constitution, not a religious document. "You don't even need to take our word for it", Planned Parenthood wrote on Twitter. But frankly, I have no idea what he might do, except I'm sure he'll be against Roe v. Wade.

Allegheny County District Attorney Stephen Zappala says there's concern that approval of President Donald Trump's Supreme Court nominee, Brett Kavanaugh, could result in the landmark decision's reversal. Maybe that's because he's finally listening to his staff.

Legally-mandated waiting periods in which women have to wait a certain number of hours before they can undergo an abortion have also been passed recently.

Trump donated to both parties during his time as a private citizen, in what now nearly seems like a past life of his as a notorious NY tycoon personality and reality television star.

The nomination of Judge Brett Kavanaugh to fill the Supreme Court seat vacated by Justice Anthony Kennedy would solidify a solid 5-4 conservative majority on the court, and it has some pro-abortion rights advocates anxious about what that majority could mean for cases regarding reproductive rights. Most Democrats, on the other hand, oppose him. You're free to liquidate your fetus up until 24 weeks but late-term abortions are forbidden even there unless a doctor decides it's necessary to save a woman's life. A honest commitment to upholding reproductive rights or enacting sane gun control - or protecting the environment, or upholding civil rights, or any number of other good causes - would require the same strategic approach to the judiciary as conservatives have shown, and the same willingness to subordinate short-term disagreements to long-term goals.
