Chelsea signs keeper Arrizabalaga for record fee

Chelsea have signed Kepa Arrizabalaga from Athletic Bilbao for £71m - the highest fee ever paid for a goalkeeper, and a club record transfer.

Courtois passed a medical at Sanitas La Moraleja University Hospital and was later unveiled as a Real player, with Mateo Kovacic moving in the opposite direction on a season-long loan.

"I'm coming into a club that has just won three Champions Leagues in a row". I'm really happy to be here and looking forward to joining them.

Yet the Spain worldwide said he was not disappointed his move to the Bernabéu fell through; nor did he fear that allowing his contract with Athletic to contain a £71.9m release clause would price him out of the market this summer.

Thibaut Courtois said that he has realised a dream by being able to join Real Madrid after signing a six-year contract with the club on Wednesday. The only pressure I experience is the pressure I put on myself. Marca said "he would stay at Madrid" because "the club meant to increase his salary".

Courtois, who had less than a year left on his Chelsea contract, wanted to move to Spain for personal reasons. "I've improved a lot and I've come here to be the best I can". The Belgium goalkeeper was the victor of the Golden Glove award at the Russian Federation 2018 Fifa World Cup.

His greatest assets are lightning-fast reflexes, allowing him to make stunning close-range stops, and calm composure in even the most frenetic of penalty areas.

"I realise the game in England is different but I've got a lot of friends, a lot of other Spanish players already playing here, and they've given me fantastic references".

Just an hour or so after Thibaut Courtois had faced the cameras in Madrid, the world's most expensive goalkeeper Kepa was presented to the English media.

"I was very young".

"But the most important thing is to open a new page with our club and to be ready to give everything for the club".
