Trump Signs $716 Billion Military Spending Bill

President Donald Trump said Monday that the new beefed-up defense spending bill will provide US soldiers with a significant pay increase and family housing. "The National Defense Authorization Act is the most significant investment in our military and our war fighters in modern history", Trump said Monday.

Vice President Mike Pence is also at Fort Drum with Trump.

National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) bars F-35 deliveries to Turkey until the Pentagon delivers a report within 90 days to the appropriate congressional defence committees.

Trump did not mention Sen.

The bill authorizes billions of dollars for military construction, including family housing.

The fiscal 2019 National Defense Authorization Act will fully fund the U.S. Air Force's B-21 bomber project and allocate $7.6 billion in funds for the purchase of 77 Lockheed Martin-built F-35 fighter jets and $85 million for Sikorsky-made UH-60M Black Hawk helicopters.

Although Trump himself never served in the military, he had the courage to attack McCain and his service. The president has repeatedly disparaged McCain, usually without using his name, even in the months since the senator has largely retreated from the Washington scene to his Arizona home for cancer treatment.

"The average signing statement for Trump looks like what you saw with the average Obama and the average Bush", said Joel Sievert of Texas Tech University, who has studied presidential signing statements.

Trump later introduced Stefanik to the Army soldiers, mispronouncing her name, but praising her persistence in asking him to visit Fort Drum.

It also authorizes a 2.6 percent pay raise for troops, the largest in almost a decade, as well as boost the size of the Navy and the ranks of the military by 15,600 active-duty troops.

"I fully understand the "one China" policy, but I don't know why we have to be bound by a "one China" policy unless we make a deal with China having to do with other things, including trade", Trump told Fox News in December 2016. It allows Trump to waive sanctions against countries that bought Russian weapons and now want to buy USA military equipment.

He said with the new budget for 2019, the United States will make a critical investment in nuclear weapons.

His wife, Cindy McCain, meanwhile, retweeted a post from CBS News that noted Trump had neglected to mention McCain at the signing.
