Manchester City hopeful Kevin De Bruyne could return within two months

The news that Kevin De Bruyne will miss the next three months of the season after suffering a serious knee injury in training came as a awful blow for a player who has been such a driving force for Manchester City in recent years, although there was better news coming out of the City camp on Friday.

He featured as a second-half substitute in City's league-opening win over Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium last Sunday.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has admitted that Arsenal's primary target for the season is to enjoy a strong campaign in the Premier League, the Evening Standard reports. "It was a tough season last season".

"We'll never know, but my opinion is that we demanded a lot of the players".

And Guardiola, himself capped 47 times for Spain, says Silva's achievements are worthy of praise.

The 27-year-old flew to see renowned doctor Ramon Cugat the following morning, with further tests revealing that he does not require surgery on his damaged lateral ligament.

"An injury like that is part of football and human beings have limits".

"I'm pretty sure this can influence it".

"Like the doctor said, it will be two to three months, hopefully he can do as much as possible to get back and help us again", Guardiola told a news conference. "If you're fresh, with normal vacations, then that doesn't happen".

'Phil's got great attitude, a great player, and more importantly, I've said before, he's a great lad.

Guardiola will be keen not to rush the midfielder back, however, and as you will no doubt be aware, has enough playmaking ability in the City squad in the shape of the increasingly impressive Bernardo Silva, David Silva, Riyad Mahrez and Ilkay Gundogan to cope with De Bruyne's absence. "Last week he was not fit, he had a little problem in his leg, but he has been training good this week". "Big congratulations because he played more than 100 games, winning European Championship and the World Cup".
