High drama in Senate as Kavanaugh-Ford hearing nears

As an account matching the transcript's description gained attention online Wednesday evening, it posted: "Do everyone who is going insane about what I had said I have recanted because I have made a mistake and apologize for such mistake". "They have been seared into my memory and have haunted me episodically as an adult", she says in her eight-page opening testimony obtained Wednesday by USA media.

At one point, far along into the call, Kavanaugh said he was facing a "smear campaign" and suggested newly revealed allegations were "just absurd and outrageous, coordinated perhaps". Another committee spokesman, Taylor Foy, said the panel received Swetnick's declaration Wednesday and "committee lawyers are in the process of reviewing it now". Kavanaugh's confirmation could solidify a conservative majority on the court for a generation.

But at least a hint of doubt has crept in.

Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh, right, shakes hands with Sen. John Thune, the third-ranking Republican, paused briefly before saying "no".

Swetnick also made other accusations in her statement.

Lana Trickovic, 27, spent her morning watching the hearing from her Loop home and described herself feeling "terrified" as she listened to Ford's account. Mazie Hirono, D-Hawaii, that Mitchell, the prosecutor, will continue to question Ford on the senators' behalf.

On the eve of her testimony, an examination taken by Ford on August 7 was released, showing that she passed a polygraph test over the sexual assault allegations.

Democratic questioners will include two senators widely seen as potential presidential candidates in 2020: Kamala Harris of California and Cory Booker of New Jersey, who aggressively challenged Kavanaugh during the judge's earlier confirmation hearing.

Hon. Carol Bagley Amon the former Chief Judge of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District presented Justice Ginsburg with a shirt that read

"[Unnamed] recently realized that one of the men was Brett Kavanaugh when she saw Kavanaugh's high school yearbook photo on television over the weekend".

Judge, Kavanaugh's high school friend, has been named in multiple claims. They say the good-guy image he projects in public bears little relation to the hard-partying behavior they witnessed when he was young.

The committee also released a two-page prepared statement from Kavanaugh for Thursday's hearing in which he "categorically and unequivocably" denies Ford's allegation.

Nothing on the calendar appears to refer to her.

She alleges that between 1981 and 1983 she attended various house parties where Mr Kavanaugh was present and that him and his friends tried to "spike" girls' drinks with drugs and alcohol to cause girls to lose their inhibitions. Hanafin noted in the report that two other polygraph tests were conducted, and both indicated that Dr. Ford was not lying. "The accusations brought against Judge Kavanaugh are sickening and deserve an independent investigation", Baker wrote.

In a statement sent to The New Yorker, the appellate judge denied Ramirez's accusations against him.

"They are actually con artists because they know how quality this man is and they have destroyed a man's reputation and they want to destroy it even more, and I think people are going to see that in the midterms, what they have done to this family, what they have done to these children, these attractive children of his and what they have done to his wife".
