NBC replaced her live show Thursday with a pre-taped episode.
Kelly announced she was leaving Fox News for NBC last January, and ET confirmed that Kelly signed a multi-year agreement with the network that included her hosting her own daytime news program, anchoring a Sunday evening news show and taking part in special political programming and other breaking news coverage.
She said it was acceptable when she was a kid when portraying a character.
"I want to begin with two words: 'I'm sorry, '" she said at the start of her show. "I learned that given the history of blackface being used in terrible ways by racists in this country, it is not OK for that to be part of any costume, Halloween or otherwise". "Thank you for listening and for helping me listen, too", she said.
"Kelly's lawyer Brian Friedman will meet with NBC brass and has requested that Farrow - who left NBC News previous year after the network declined to run his expose on Harvey Weinstein - be present", Mediaite reports.
"Megyn Kelly is done".
Conservatives also recall how Kelly gained infamy during the first GOP presidential debate of the 2016 election cycle when she spearheaded Fox's "Kill Donald" campaign - an aggressive effort to sink the insurgent, front-running candidacy of Donald Trump.

The report notes that Kelly has been critical of NBC's handling of Farrow, with Kelly running a segment in September calling on the network to hire an outside firm to determine why it spiked his reporting on Weinstein.
One source said that it seemed inevitable Kelly would be phased out of the industry.
Kelly apologized, but many criticized her on social media.
Meanwhile, Kelly reportedly hired high-profile attorney Bryan Freedman and was dropped by talent agency CAA. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Freedman is scheduled to meet with NBC executives on Friday. NBC have not made any official statement about the future of the show.
"The fact is, she owes a bigger apology to folks of color around the county", he said.
They also do not know how they are going to handle her exit from Today and where she goes from there.
"They gave her the $69 million and all she has delivered is scandal after scandal". Kelly was the number one host on Fox News, a network she left amid a storm of sexual harassment allegations against the then network president, Roger Ailes, including allegations made by Kelly herself.
