The new Mac Mini starts at just $799 and it is now available for order today.
Looking the same as the existing model but in black, the Mac Mini is the easy way to get Mac functionality without needing a built-in desktop model, such as the iMac.
The base model for the Mac mini 2018 comes with 8GB RAM, 3.6Ghz quad core Intel Core i3 processor and a 128GB SSD. The revamped Mac mini comes with up to 64GB of memory and works five times faster than its predecessor, Apple said. The speed bump is largely a product of quad- and six-core chips from Intel's 8 generation family of Core processors. The processor's paired with up to 64GB of RAM (32GB comes standard) at 2666MHz and up to 2TB of SSD storage - double the capacity of previous Mac Minis. There you will find four Thunderbolt 3 ports, two USB Type-A ports, HDMI, audio and Ethernet (including a 10Gbps option).More news: IBM to Acquire Red Hat in Huge Tech Deal

The big picture: Apple's Mac mini was long overdue for an update as the last refresh came more than four years ago. Along with the new paint job, which is Space Grey, the Mac mini also has a new price tag. Apple has also baked in its T2 Security Chip which enables on-the-fly data encryption and ensures that software loaded during the boot process hasn't been compromised. Its graphical capabilities are rated as 60 per cent faster than the previous generation. With all the bells and whistles, the Mac Mini comes in at a staggering $4199.
We're still awaiting United Kingdom prices but expect the Mac Mini to be available at the same time as in the US. The "budget" MacBook Air is pricier than ever with a starting cost of $1,199 United States dollars, that ultimately topping out at $2,599 USD.
The Mac mini 2018 is packed with modern hardware that makes it a brilliant mini computer, so if you've been tempted to pick up the tiny Mac, the Mac mini 2018 is definitely worth the money.
