Dana White Not Sure When Brock Lesnar vs. Daniel Cormier Will Happen

The "DC" initials that flashed on the Madison Square Garden marquee have a deeper meaning for Daniel Cormier. Daniel Cormie; one of the greatest of all-time.

"Two belts for each shoulder!"

Before Cormier called out his likely future opponent, he had plenty of kind words to say for his previous one.

Cormier would wrestle Lewis back to the ground before locking in a rear naked choke to win via tapout, becoming the first man to defend the UFC Light Heavyweight and Heavyweight Championships.

Cormier. Lewis. Our crew breaks down this Heavyweight matchup. Again, the Houston native regained his feet, but the respite only last a matter of seconds as Cormier took him down again.

Lewis earned the shot at the title after beating Alexander Volkov barely a month ago, but his quick return to the octagon failed to pay off after he tapped out in the second round of the clash in NY.

For the second time in as many appearances at MSG, Chris Weidman was finished, falling to Ronaldo "Jacare" Souza via TKO in the third round in the co-main event.

He was still ready to rumble.

"Brock Lesnar... when you come, bring that brand new WWE title too", he told Joe Rogan after the bout.

UFC President Dana White has said he wanted a Lesnar-Cormier bout signed for next year, a showcase that would surely be the biggest ever for heavyweights. Lesnar re-captured the WWE Universal Championship at WWE Crown Jewel this past Friday night by defeating Braun Strowman.

While Cormier was heavily favoured to come out on top against "The Black Beast", he took the threat of Lewis seriously and put himself through a tough, if short, training camp. He will hold the light heavyweight title only until former foe Jon Jones and Alexander Gustafsson fight for the title later this year. The second bout past year was changed to a no-contest when Jones failed a doping test that kept him out of the sport for 15 months.

Cormier will be stripped of his light heavyweight title and the 205-pound crown will go to the victor of the Jones-Gustafsson bout at UFC 232 on December 29 in Las Vegas. Cormier shot for Lewis's legs and took him down to the canvas.

Lewis landed a nice combo 30 seconds into the second round and even tried a switch kick as he stepped up the aggression. "If you have a puncher's chance it's not good enough".
