"Surviving R. Kelly" Causes Surge In Calls To Sex Abuse Hotline

But the highly anticipated and deeply sourced docuseries, "Surviving R. Kelly", which debuted Thursday night, all but confirmed the most disgusting suspicions about him and his apparent predilection for seducing and controlling girls and young women.

That makes Surviving R. Kelly Lifetime's largest social premiere of any series or movie in the network's history. "I couldn't believe all the stuff that was going down".

In the documentary, a backup singer claims to have witnessed Kelly's inappropriate behavior toward Aaliyah, who died in a plane crash in 2001.

Lifetime's Surviving R. Kelly explores extremely horrific sexual misconduct allegations against R. Kelly.

Aaliyah met Kelly though Barry Hankerson, her uncle and his manager.

John, who had previously worked with R Kelly, said his involvement wasn't a hard decision for him to make, despite others refusing to comment on the issue.

Aaliyah's mother, Diane Haughton, is exhausted of her daughter's name being "dragged through the mud with lies" when it comes to R. Kelly. The report details how Kelly had leveraged his fame into having sex with girls as young as 15.

At the trial, which took place in 2008, Sparkle testified under oath that the video, filmed in 2000, showed Kelly and her niece. "My daughter only wanted to realize her dream of sharing her talent with the world, and give her all performing on stage, and in front of the camera for the fans she adored so much", the statement continued.

As a reminder, R. Kelly has denied all of the allegations brought against him and has not been convicted of any wrongdoing at this time.

Ruiz did not watch part one of the documentary but, says she's well aware of the allegations against Kelly.

A subsequently unearthed marriage certificate listed his 15-year-old protegee's age as 18; her parents had it annulled the following year.

But the relationship soon turned into a nightmare, she says.

In May, the online streaming platform Spotify removed the artist's music from its playlists and recommendations after the Time's Up movement for gender equality urged the music industry to dump him over persistent sex abuse allegations.
