Microsoft Office 365, Windows 10 get bundled version for normal consumers

The last round of smartphones for the platform were released in the early fall of 2017, and according to recent estimates the Windows Phone market share checks in at less than 0.5 per cent.

But even that last story ended with the caveat that Microsoft still wasn't releasing the Windows 10 October 2018 Update to everyone.

Just a few days after announcing it would stop supporting Windows 7 soon, Microsoft is sounding the death knell for another of its products: Windows 10 Mobile.

Devices running Windows 10 Mobile will continue to work after the December 10, 2019 date.

"With the Windows 10 Mobile OS (reaching) end of support, we recommend that customers move to a supported Android or iOS device", the company writes on its online support page.

"Microsoft is working with many commercial customers to ensure their successful migration to a supported platform prior to the end of support date".

This has already been Microsoft's policy for some time, with Xbox using Alexa and the partnership between Alexa and Microsoft to have Cortana running on Echo speakers - and Alexa on Windows 10 devices.

The company is ending support for the Windows 10 Mobile OS later this year on December 10.

Microsoft event said that they now officially recommend moving to supported Android or iOS device.

For the relatively popular Lumia 640 and 640 XL phone models, the latest Windows 10 OS version is 1703, and this means, that these gadgets will get support only till June 11th, 2019. Alongside the company is also building apps that would work across foldable as well as dual screen devices.

Microsoft Corp.is looking to make its Cortana voice assistant available as a native "skill" for Amazon.com Inc.'s Alexa and Google Assistant as part of a new push to court consumers.
