Xiaomi has just unveiled its first 5G smartphone at MWC 2019 and it's a reworking of its current flagship, the Xiaomi Mi Mix 3.

What's incredible about the 5G Mi Mix 3 is its price, something Xiaomi always excelled at.

It is unlikely that these smartphones will come to the Indian market, considering most Mi flagship devices have stayed away, except for the Mi 4 and Mi 5. This means aside from the new chipset and 5G support, the Mi Mix 3 5G has the same hardware as of the original Mi Mix 3 that debuted in China back in October previous year. This means the Mi Mix 5G is capable of downloading a 15-minute 1080p (256MB) video in a second or 26 MP3 files (320Kbps) in a second.

Xiaomi didn't reveal the RAM and storage variations for this new Mi MIX 3 variant. As a reminder, the Mi Mix 3 features an all-screen design with minimal bezels and a slide-out mechanism for the selfie cam system. It runs Android 9.0 and comes with Xiaomi's MIUI 10 skin.

Inside the Mi 9 is a 3300mAh battery, featuring fast charging for both wired and wireless charging. Naturally, there is also the Snapdragon X50 modem which allows it to support 5G network. The company has also introduced the global variant of the Xiaomi Mi 9 as well. The 5G version of the phone will sell for just €599 (or around $680), which is a lot cheaper than we expect numerous first 5G phones to cost.

"5G is here, not in 2020, not late 2020; it's here right now in 2019", Cristiano Amon, president of chipmaker Qualcomm, which supplies Xiaomi, said during a launch event.

The Mi 9 is available in Spain, France and Italy for pre-order now; it will show up in stores on February 28. The 5G device will be priced from 599 Euros (about RM2,768) and it comes in Onyx Black and Sapphire Blue. The handset also gets a dedicated Game Turbo for gaming and fifth-generation optical in-display fingerprint scanner for security.
