Bringing back Luke Walton isn’t the worst idea

After a string of disappointing coaches in LA (not all of which were because of bad coaches), the Lakers finally were getting someone that had ties with the organization and looked like a victor. The Lakers were reportedly hoping to open a roster spot for someone who could help with their playoff push, but that second shoe never dropped.

Jason Kidd's coaching record isn't the best and there are some comical moments from his times in Brooklyn and Milwaukee, but here are three thoughts if the Lakers' interest comes to life in the offseason.

With the Los Angeles Lakers embracing the inevitable path away from the playoffs, team management is already looking forward to the next season.

With that said, there have been whispers that Walton could be fired after the season and a couple names of his possible replacements have emerged recently.

He has struggled to produce consistent rotations that make sense and was making questionable decisions before LeBron James came around.

Marc Stein of the New York Times reported on Tuesday morning about the Lakers potential opening if they fire Luke Walton and agreed with ESPN's Stephen A. Smith that former Cavs coach Ty Lue is a strong candidate.

"I think Cal is a great institution", Kidd said on The Jump.

"I just view it as outside noise", Walton told The Athletic.

Jason Kidd will not turn down the Lakers if they ask him to replace Luke Walton next season. They have the best player on the planet, and they were still atrocious this year. He wants to win now. "But I think, again, it takes time".

Kidd has been searching a for a job ever since losing his position as the Milwaukee Bucks head coach in January 2018.

"And so, that would be a great honor to coach any elite basketball player, and I've got that opportunity in Giannis. And, hopefully, somewhere down the road, I can have another star".
