On March 12, PACA suspended operations of all Boeing 737 MAX aircraft operating in and out of the country's airports until further notice.

Boeing also halted deliveries and announced last week that it was scaling back production of the 737 Max.

Preliminary investigations into the crash show a potentially faulty sensor reading triggered a system which pushed the nose of the 737 Max 8 jet down, straight into the ground, killing all 157 peopele on board.

American Airlines operates 24 of the 737 Max 8 planes and has an additional 76 jets on order from Boeing. Just 11 Maxs were delivered in March.

Delta Air Lines Inc Chief Executive Officer Ed Bastian said on Tuesday he was confident US planemaker Boeing Co would resolve issues relating to its 737 MAX jet following two deadly crashes involving that type of aircraft.

As reported earlier by CNN, Boeing may face compensation claims of more than US$2 billion, and that amount is still growing.

Seeks said he bought 300 Boeing shares in early March, and sold them at a loss within the last two weeks.

That small number compares to 112 orders for the plane in the first quarter of 2018. Meanwhile, airlines that own the almost 400 Max jets are cancelling flights.

"Boeing's CEO explicitly apologised to 346 passenger families", said Merdian Agustin, whose husband died in the crash. Boeing hasn't described the second issue but says it is not related to the anti-stall system.

Since the Boeing 737 Max 8 was grounded in the United States on 13 March, American Airlines has cut 1,200 flights and has extended cancellations through its second quarter to 30 June, which will affect about 90 flights a day. "We will also work directly with our suppliers on their production plans to minimize operational disruption and financial impact of the production rate change", Muilenburg said.

Boeing said at the weekend it is cutting production of its 737 jetliner for the first time since the September 11 attacks in NY as the plane maker works to limit financial damage from the global grounding of its newest and best-selling aircraft model.
