Severe storms expected over next 3 days in the South

Hail, however, will remain possible with any of the stronger storms.

Worth noting: isolated thunderstorms are possible this afternoon, mainly along and north of Highway 21. A quick-spin tornado will be possible along the leading edge of the line of storms, though.

Large hail and damaging winds will be the primary threats as severe storms are expected to move across the Kansas City metro area this evening, according to the National Weather Service in Pleasant Hill, Missouri. As of Wednesday morning, the highest tornado threat exists through eastern portions of Virginia down through the eastern Carolinas. Either way, if you have an easy way to cover valuables, like your vehicle, it wouldn't hurt to do so tonight. At the same time, another surface low will develop near southwest Oklahoma, increasing the southerly flow of unstable gulf air and deepening our moisture content in the lower levels of the atmosphere. With a line of storms, the main threat will likely be strong to damaging wind gusts, especially were the line bows.

The Kansas City area could see between.5 and.75 of an inch of rain from the storms. Some minor flooding will be a possibility in the heaviest storms. The Deep South faces a "slight risk" (Level 2 of 5) of severe storms, the Storm Prediction Center said.

Rain showers will exit KAKEland very early on Thursday and temperatures behind this cold front will be sharply cooler with daytime highs in the upper 50s to low 60s, Thursday afternoon.

But the storms should move through by Thursday morning.
