In its stores across the country, Krispy Kreme Canada is offering doughnut-enthusiasts any one doughnut of their choice absolutely free on Friday. So while you're enjoying your unbelievable Hurts Donut this Friday, know that you're doing an incredible thing to help out those who have sacrificed so much.

But you can score a free classic doughnut by buying a beverage on Friday.

Entenmann's: Enter the National Donut Day sweepstakes for a chance at $5,000 and free donuts for a year.

The Salvation Army is giving out free donuts and coffee to shoppers at its Family Stores in Paterson, Passaic, Dover and Hackettstown.

The day honors the Salvation Army members that served doughnuts to soldiers during World War I.

Randy's Donuts - Small LA donut chain, Randy's, will be giving out four glazed "donut rounds" on National Donut Day between 6 a.m.to noon at every LA location.

"A South Brunswick Dunkin" doughnut shop was robbed of a single doughnut on Saturday, thanks to a dancing thief who live streamed the entire incident. The retailer expects to give away 1.2 million doughnuts.

Krispy Kreme is embracing this weird and wonderful theory with the one-day offer and celebrating National Doughnut Day.

The Donut Experiment (Anna Maria) 210 Pine Ave., Anna Maria 7:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. Get one dozen doughnuts for $10.

Shipley Do-Nuts: With any purchase, enjoy a free glazed do-nut at participating locations. To claim your free doughnut, visit the bakery section of any Walmart Supercenter or participating Neighborhood Market.

But, here's the catch- you're going to have to prove you are a believer!

Many would be surprised to learn that National Doughnut Day was created to commemorate and celebrate the efforts of the women, known as The Doughnut Lassies, who volunteered for the Salvation Army during WWI in 1917.

Cinotti's Bakery: OK, so you can't get a free doughnut at Cinotti's, but the Jacksonville Beach bakery is rolling out pumpkin doughnuts by the dozen for the occasion. Come get samples while supplies last.
