But you can score a free classic doughnut by buying a beverage on Friday.
The Salvation Army is giving out free donuts and coffee to shoppers at its Family Stores in Paterson, Passaic, Dover and Hackettstown.
The day honors the Salvation Army members that served doughnuts to soldiers during World War I.

Many would be surprised to learn that National Doughnut Day was created to commemorate and celebrate the efforts of the women, known as The Doughnut Lassies, who volunteered for the Salvation Army during WWI in 1917.
